A sketch is an unfinished piece of art that an artist draws quickly and is done to record an observation, develop an idea for later, communicate an idea and practice for a final image. On 3 separate pieces of paper we responded to 9 different prompts including a completed image and attempted 4 gesture drawings. Please review the linked PPT for more information.

Unit 1 Theme: Artists observe and respond to the world around them.
Students are to research observational artists and develop a unique visual response to the theme. View the attached PPT for more information on artists and their motivations. The sun and moon have been used as subjects of art and materials of creation for centuries. In honor of the solar eclipse the PPT linked below shows examples of artists and styles depicting the sun.
Students collage the covers of their daily journals to reflect their personal style and interests. They are able to use magazines, construction paper, and drawings, all cut and glued onto the cover. See the button below to access the PPT on creating a collage.
