The following are PPTs and documents associated with Unit 3: Artists Experiment with Materials and Techniques. Please use these to review information or catch up if you've been absent.
The main goal of this unit is to try a new material/technique. In Unit 2, we will explore our sense of Culture and Identity of ourselves as artists and how we interpret the world around us. In our Mini projects we will begin to investigate these themes through exercises of Radial Design,
Blind Contour & Silhouettes, Caricatures using Physical Traits, and Portraiture using Proportion. See the PPTs linked below to get more information on the background and processes learned. Students imagine, research, plan and create their own original project in response to the theme: "Artists Observe and Respond the to World" for their Unit 1 independent project. The subject matter, media and style of this project is self-determined. To start the brainstorming process students will be asked to create a brain-mapping diagram similar to the one pictured below on Coggle.it For more information on grading please see the rubrics tab.
As part of the UNIT 1 theme: Artists Observe and Respond we explored gesture drawing, creating forms in 3D, collage, composing photographs correctly. sketching with alternative techniques and drawing architecture using 2 point perspective. See the PPTs linked below to get more information on the background and processes learned.
Zines are short, low-cost magazines often distributed at independent book stores. Students will create a 1-page book using inspiration from zines like the Moon Zine to set their theme.
We will spend some of our spring outside in a TBHS-wide chalk drawing competition. Students will design and complete a 5'x5' chalk drawing in groups of 2-4. Winners will receive a prize TBA.
The Color Wheel is an organizational tool artists use to determine the relationships between colors. We will use the color wheel to learn more about the psychology of color in relation to color theory. After a number of color mixing exercises students will apply their knowledge of color theory and color schemes to create an advertisement targeted to a specific audience.
The link above will take you to an introductory PowerPoint to discuss and review artists that fit within the category of communicators and collaborators. This includes public art, community based art, workshops or studios, political art, advertisements and more!
