Think of the filling as your positive space and the cookie itself as the negative space. Carve away the positive space to create an image. You could pair with a partner or group to create a whole image too! Take a photo of your completed masterpiece and link to @tbhs_artz #deletethiscookie To create this image you are using the "subtractive" process. This means you are taking media or material away to create the final image. Petra, one of the 7 wonders of the world was created this way!
We are going to create a total of 10, 30 second gesture drawings of animals using quick poses in our journals. Remember gesture drawing is a great tool for animators, cartoonists and sports illustrators. It helps us to capture movement or motion. One such artist is, Jack Kirby, creator of such characters as Captain America and the Hulk (see his website linked below).
Artist Matthew Lively is considered the "squiggle champion" of the world. He starts many of his drawings with a random line or scribble. Please view the rest of his work by following the link below. Trade your journal with a neighbor, draw a random line or squiggle in their journal, trade back... It is your challenge to make the squiggle into a complex scene or drawing!
Artist, Salvador Dali is well known for his surreal images combining everyday objects into a dream-like reality (see examples below). In your journal, combine at least 3 found images (from magazines) to create a surreal object or scene. Glue into journal.
Artist Jer Thorp combines data and history in his artworks to help people control and understand the information around them. In 2017 Jer Thorp created an installation in Saint Louis called "The Map Room" where community members were invited to create a variety of giant maps of Saint Louis from their personal experiences. This begs the question: can maps be subjective?
