Your independent project is based on the the theme:
Artists Observe and Respond to the World. Sketch at least 3 different ideas for your independent project. Watch the following video of the sights and sounds of NYC. Choose one person from the video, after observing their behavior, gestures, dress, etc., write a story about their day. What are they doing/going to do? Try to write at least 5 sentences in your journal about this person/people.
Create a SCENE in which there is a foreground, middle ground and background. Use non-linear methods of creating visual space by altering size, placement and detail to create this illusion in your journal.
Place a horizon line and vanishing point on your paper. Follow the linked tutorial to create 3 different boxes on your paper (above/at/below the horizon line). This is called 1 point perspective.
Choose a simple object in the room (example: push pin, pencil, scissors, glue bottle, etc.); attempt to crop/compose that object in 9 different ways: Complete on a separate WS and glue into your journal.
Create a viewfinder from a piece of card stock (place strings if desired). Use to crop and re-draw the previous image in your journal.
Look around the room... Find a specific item in the room or section of the room to draw from sight using our sketching and forms drawing techniques.
Optical Illusions are a trick of the eye; designs that appear to alter reality. Bridget Riley is an artist that helped to pioneer and popularize the Op Art movement by manipulating lines and shapes to create illusion (below). In your journal follow the tutorial to create an impossible triangle.
