2 Point Perspective is similar to 1 Point Perspective in that it allows the artist to make items appear smaller in an image using a specific proportion or ratio. In your journal create 3 shaded floating cubes. Often used in architectural drawings and mock-ups, 2 Point Perspective is a way to create the illusion of form in a 2D drawing. This technique works especially well with cubes and other geometric forms.

Artists use a number of tricks to create a sense of depth in their images. For example, objects get darker, less detailed and smaller as they go back in space. The illusion of depth can be enhanced by the use of perspective. One point perspective creates a tunnel-like viewpoint. Today in your journal create a labelled an image using 1 PT Perspective. This image, found at the St. Louis Art Museum is an example of how 1 pt. perspective can be used in an artwork.
Even when using a material we feel confident with, like pencil, we need to practice and hone our skills. Complete the half-page worksheet on Pencil Athletics and glue into your journal. Remember to practice the process, technique or material for your independent project thoroughly before starting on your final project.
Expand your perspective by talking with someone new or different about a common topic. This allows us to see our own biases in how we think. Choose a textbook (or other) and flip to 2 different parts of the book, choosing one word at random from that section. You challenge is to use those 2 words to create a story...
We think creatively when we are forced to find remote connections between ideas. Create a pop up card on the next page in your journal by following the illustrated steps below. Many tutorials exist online if you're interested in furthering your knowledge on how to create pop-ups. Matthew Reinhardt is a professional pop up book maker who has become internationally known for his wildly intricate projects.
Change your perspective by combining two different images or ideas. For artists this process is called juxtaposition. Artist/Photographer David Samuel Stern creates weavings with his digital photography to elicit new and interesting responses from his audience (see image below). Weave together two totally different found images:
Answer the following question: How can combining ideas or images increase possibility or creativity in your artwork? When starting an image it's important to first sketch out your ideas. Before your apply your design to the matrix (or printing plate) make sure your image is the appropriate size, placement and style. * Remember: You only get ONE printing matrix; planning is key!
